Spring is here…I think.

This week we got out first batch of broilers in the mail. All 60 chicks popped out of the box and started running laps. It’s pretty exciting to have new life on the farm and definitely makes it feel more like spring.

We have our first batch of seedlings ready to go in the greenhouse with our tender Solanums (tomatoes, eggplant, & peppers) under lights inside.  I don’t think I will ever tire of watching seeds germinate.

We are waiting for our soils to dry out enough to till. We recently picked up our new broadfork from Red Pig Tools and plan on using that to give our beds a deep forkin’.  With soils as moist as they are, tilling can lead to compaction and we are really tring to avoid that.

Yesterday we got to visit Dean of Wildcat Mountain Farm. He grows plant starts that are sold all over town at co-ops. It was quite a learning experience. We were both in awe at how healthy and vibrant his plants are. He definitely has his systems down.

Please wander around the new website and let me know what you think. Don’t be surprised if there are faulty links or lettering.  The final draft is on its way!

Sarah

Just for fun….
